Dealing with Water Damage in Your Oxnard Carpets
Homeownership, unfortunately, is often full of unpredictable challenges, such as a bathtub overflowing and flooding your carpeted hallway. Even if you have a carpet shampooer to remove excess water, you may need professional assistance to mitigate any secondary damage like carpet delamination in the form of backings buckling or rippling or potential mold colony growth.
Dealing with water damage after an unfortunate overflow in your Oxnard home may be seriously inconvenient, but it does not mean that your carpet is completely destroyed. With proper extraction, drying, and cleaning, SERVPRO technicians most likely can restore your carpet to preloss condition. Drying carpet quickly helps to prevent excess moisture from seeping into the backing, potentially requiring removal or even replacement of the carpet.
When the carpet becomes wet, it is not just the carpet visible to you that incurs damage. There are also the primary and secondary backings to consider since they play an essential role in the life and durability of the carpet. The primary backing material consists of woven or spun-bonded material that has carpet tufts woven or needle-punched into it, typically made of synthetic or jute materials.
The secondary backing is the layer at the backside of the carpet, which is attached with latex adhesive, providing strength, allowing the carpet to keep its shape after installation. The secondary backing may be jute or synthetic material like polypropylene.
It is important to note that 99% of the carpet made today is out of synthetic material, rather than the burlap-like jute. However, older carpet in homes and some area rugs still have jute, which tends to shrink when wet making it imperative to dry the carpet quickly after exposure to water. Polypropylene, on the other hand, does not absorb as much water and does not shrink; however, it may be difficult to stretch during re-installation.
After water damage, it is also crucial to inspect, replacing, if necessary, the coated latex adhesive material that anchors tufts into the carpet's primary backing to hold primary and secondary backing together when restoring carpets. Latex breaks down quickly due to age, heat, and heavy traffic potentially causing delamination, meaning that primary and secondary backings loosen, and the carpet loses its shape.
SERVPRO water damage experts understand carpet and how to remove excess moisture best while preserving the appearance of your carpet. Our goal is to make it "Like it never even happened."

Attic Water Damage in Oxnard Cleaned Up Fast
Water damage in attics can be hard to detect until it has proliferated for days, weeks, or even months. This type of damage creates a variety of potential problems for homeowners, from soft, crumbly drywall to mold growth on insulation. Consumer-grade products are not designed to handle these types of issues, but there is a team that can help.
If your Oxnard home needs water damage cleanup fast, the pros at SERVPRO can come to you within hours of your call to remove debris and restore your home to a preloss condition. SERVPRO uses a scientific approach to disaster cleanup, alongside cutting-edge moisture measurement technologies like infrared imaging and thermohygrometers, to determine the location of damages and remove them quickly and safely. SERVPRO also offers general contracting services (license #892710) for additional repairs after cleanup.
Preventing Water Damage to Your Attic
• Do a roof inspection. Check gutters, damaged shingles, or leaky flashing. While this may not be the source of your leak, these damages can make small issues much worse.
• Limit condensation. Water vapor from lower floors can accumulate in your attic, so keep vents clear of obstructions to prevent condensation that can cause water damage.
• Check your appliances. If you have an attic water heater, inspect the tank and supply line for leaks and flush it out regularly. If your central air conditioning is located in the attic, make sure your condensate drain is free of clogs to prevent overflows. You can implement an overflow safety switch to shut the A/C off before leaks can develop.
• Take care of your pipes. Many water supply lines are routed through homeowners' attics. If yours is unconditioned, cold temperatures can cause these pipes to burst from the pressure caused by freezing water. Check these areas for pinhole leaks and seepage, and contact a plumber right away to mitigate the issue.
How SERVPRO Removes Damage
SERVPRO technicians use a broad spectrum of tools to address structural damages and prepare your attic for drying. If you have fiberglass insulation, technicians can use a specialized vacuum to dry it separately from the structure and reinstall it after cleanup. Documents, books, and other paper goods that may have been affected by water can be taken offsite for a sublimation (freeze-drying) treatment. Instead of drying these papers the traditional way, freeze-drying prevents further water damage and maintains the current condition of documents.
SERVPRO of Oxnard works hard to ensure that your home looks, “Like it never even happened.” You can call (805) 984-2347 for rapid disaster cleanup today.

When Leaking Pipes in Oxnard Homes Causes Water Damaged Walls
Sometimes water damage requires that all or part of a wall be removed. Fast water removal is essential to minimizing damage.
Water Removal Oxnard – Moisture Damage to Walls
Almost all of the plumbing in your home is behind walls, in the ceiling, or even under the floor. Occasionally the water pipes spring a pin-sized hole, which allows a fine spray of water to soak everything in the immediate vicinity. Vapor barriers can sometimes prevent the leak from being noticed until water leaks from behind walls or ceilings.
SERVPRO provides water removal and repairs in the Oxnard area 24/7 and can be onsite in less than four hours. We understand that by arriving onsite quickly, we can control the amount of damage and reduce the secondary damage from high moisture situations.
What are Vapor Barriers
Homebuilders install vapor barriers while your home is to prevent moisture from passing through the wall. Vapor barriers protect your home from moisture and reduce the chances of mold in your home. Typically, a moisture barrier is made of 6 mils plastic sheeting.
Sometimes, consumers inadvertently add vapor barriers. For example, vinyl wallpaper, which is common in many homes, acts as a vapor barrier. Many people prefer to use semi-gloss, gloss, and enamel paint in their homes. This quality of paint is durable, can be washed, and acts as a vapor retardant.
Why Must An Entire Wall be Replaced?
Often, homeowners are surprised to learn that an entire wall needs replacing when there is a leak in a pipe inside the wall. The wallboard is highly absorbent, soaking up water quickly. The outside surface, which covered with vinyl wallpaper or vapor retardant paint, may not have allowed early detection of the leak. Yet the wall is entirely soaked and must be replaced.
SERVPRO has a variety of moisture sensors we use to detect hidden areas of moisture. We can also complete all repairs after removing water damaged walls or flooring materials and drying your home. Our Contractor Licenses: General: 892710, California State License Board (CSLB): 892710, allow us to help the customer recover from water damage events quickly with temporary and permeant reconstruction repairs to your home.

Water Damage Experts In Oxnard Explain Drying Science Used In Restoration
Whenever a pipe breaks inside your home in Oxnard, many conditions get created that can ruin your building materials and contents. If water damage inside your house goes untreated for too long secondary issues can result. Whenever you notice wet items inside your structure, it is wise to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO. We have the proper training and experience to help you prevent secondary problems like mold from occurring.
A big part of restoring any water damage in Oxnard is the applied structural drying or ASD phase. The first step to mitigating moisture-related issues after we deem the work area safe is to extract any liquid water. Once all standing water and wet items such as carpet have been extracted, we then move towards rapidly drying out your structural components.
To dry out a structure as quickly as possible, our SERVPRO technicians study drying science. The best way to remove moisture from a building is to create an atmospheric environment that is conducive for rapid drying. When formulating a drying plan, we first utilize instruments to test the atmosphere.
We measure things like the indoor temperature and humidity to see if the atmosphere is one that supports the fast drying of your building materials and contents. If the environment is not ideal for ASD, then our crew can manipulate the situation to make it conducive for rapid drying. We can accomplish this by using pieces of equipment such as dehumidifiers and portable heaters.
We measure the temperature in a building because hot air can hold more moisture than cooler air. This means that more water from wet solid materials can evaporate into warmer air making dry work faster when temperatures are higher. If needed, we can set up portable heaters to increase the temperature inside the affected region of your house.
We measure humidity levels because things dry out faster when the humidity is lower. If needed, we can take two humidity measurements. The relative humidity is expressed as a percentage, and it is the amount of moisture the air is holding at a given temperature. The humidity ratio tells us the exact amount of moisture in the air, and it is measured in grains per pound or gpp.
If humidity levels are too high for quick-drying, our technicians can add dehumidifiers to pull water from the air. For professional help after a water leak, call SERVPRO of Oxnard at (805) 984-2347 because We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

"Floating" a carpet that has suffered a water loss can dry the underlying slab, prevent delamination of the carpet and mold growth.
Water Spilling Over the Edge of Your Forgotten Tub Damages More than the Bathroom Carpet in Your Oxnard Home
Accidents happen most often in either the bathroom or the kitchen, and these include incidents without injuries. Those involving water can lead to someone slipping on a wet floor or getting shocked by a wet styling tool. When water gets displaced in your Oxnard home and ends up in the wrong place, it can harm your home's structure.
When a sink or tub overflows onto the floor of your house in Oxnard, water damage can start spreading from the area before you have a chance to turn off the faucet. SERVPRO's certified Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRT) understand the crucial importance of mitigating the area. The condition of the rest of your home depends on a skilled and competent mitigation team.
Training for Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) takes time but doing so means we can give our customers the quickest possible response when it matters the most. Water damage never takes a break in spreading to new areas of your home. It damages ever-larger portions of your property through both the condensation of water vapor onto other materials and the water gradually seeping farther away from the initial location of the invasive water.
More than your carpet gets wet when things like this happen. The floor below the carpet also gets soaked. Because of water's nature, it can also end up underneath the tub or sink's cabinet. Able to slowly leak downward from here, it can end up inside walls, corroding electrical components, compacting insulation, and starting microbial infestations.
Clipping the end of the carpet to an air mover in a large bathroom can help get small spills dried out, but rolling up while air drying a smaller carpet by taking it outside to dry there in the sunshine can also kill any microbes that might exist. The floor below requires treatment, so it dries as quickly as possible, too. Below the tub or sink, depending on the construction of your home, we might use imaging devices downstairs and go through an existing opening in the ceiling.
When water comes down into another area downstairs from an overflow, we want to collect the water as quickly as possible. This might require us to drill some holes into the ceiling to save it from collapsing. Our building services department, licensed under California State License Board (CSLB) #892710, helps ensure these tiny holes get patched up flawlessly after we finish mitigating the damage and restoring affected areas.
Walls that trap water release it once we drill holes behind the baseboard's location. We always replace this after we dry the interior with our Injectidry system. We do not want you to have to do any cleaning up after we leave.
Making your property “Like it never even happened” is important to us at SERVPRO of Oxnard. Call us at (805) 984-2347 when water threatens your home with damaging effects. We can stop the deterioration and prevent damage from progressing.

Protecting Belongings In Your Oxnard Home From Water Damage
With substantial water loss incidents that pour significant volumes of clean water to the floors of your Oxnard residence, it can be overwhelming to recall immediately how to make the situation better. Of course, it is imperative to shut the water off to the impaired appliance or section of plumbing and understand that these elements must get replaced or repaired before the water can get restored unless it is a non-vital appliance which can stay shut down for prolonged periods.
The next pressing concern for many homeowners is addressing the standing water damage to the Oxnard household, but this leaves vital areas of your property at risk for damage unnecessarily. As important as it is to begin extraction and water removal processes, protecting your belongings and possessions throughout the exposed area only takes a few moments and can save you time and money on restoration. Content management is a considerable portion of the water recovery efforts of our SERVPRO team, and for the DIY enthusiast, this should be a priority as well.
The approach with at-risk items is to determine their condition and how much attention and drying efforts they might individually need. Our SERVPRO content management team would classify them into three categories based on this visual inspection during the damage assessment portion of our restoration effort. Items and personal belongings can get considered a total loss, can be considered unscathed, or in need of restoration services.
While you might not have the experience or the equipment for restoration efforts on individual items, homeowners can still benefit from moving these contents to a safe location somewhere else in the house. The objective is to keep these items dry and protected until extraction and moisture removal efforts complete.
Our SERVPRO of Oxnard team has unique training and an entire dedicated area in our facility for content recovery, drying, and storage. Our Experts Explain Tips For Managing Water Damage In Your Home In Oxnard
Our technicians can remove the water and dry the affected areas effectively.
Tips For Managing Water Damage In Your Oxnard Home Effectively
Dealing with a water loss incident in a home is not appealing, but many Oxnard homeowners find themselves in that situation. Bathtub overflows are a common cause of water damage in homes, and they can occur if someone leaves the water running for the tub to fill and forgets about it. This can send gallons of water on the floor. After a water loss incident in your house, you should take certain steps.
You can minimize the water damage in your Oxnard residence by shutting off the source of the leaking water. For instance, if you have a leaking fixture, search for the water shut-off valve for it. If you cannot find that valve, turn off the main shut-off valve to your property.
After shutting off the water, your responsibility is protecting the house from additional damage. You can move light and valuable furniture to safe areas. The other essential step is contacting a water remediation company such as SERVPRO to start the remediation process. Our Water Restoration Technicians (WRT) can use shop vacs to remove the standing water to prevent further destruction of your property and its contents. Primary damage occurs when materials come into direct contact with water, while secondary damage results when water vapor damages materials.
If the bathroom is located on the second floor, it is likely for the water to ruin the ceiling of the room below. Proper drying is crucial for repairing water damaged ceilings. Failing to remove moisture properly can cause mold infestation that could pose a health risk to your family. Our technicians have the drying equipment to dry water-damaged materials. We use air movers to speed up evaporation and dehumidifiers to remove moisture from the air.
If there’s a chance that porous flooring materials, cabinets, or drywall have been exposed to water, our technicians can perform a detailed moisture inspection using infrared cameras. Water cools surface temperature after evaporating. Infrared cameras identify the differences in temperature to locate potential water damage. With this tool, our SERVPRO crew can identify the areas of concern. We also use moisture meters to detect and monitor the moisture in materials and take measures to remove it.
If you're dealing with a water loss incident in your home and need water damage restoration services, call SERVPRO of Oxnard at (805) 984-2347. Our technicians can remove the water and dry the affected areas effectively. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Why SERVPRO Is The Team Ready To Handle Oxnard Water Damage
SERVPRO is ready to tackle leaks inside your home, eliminating odor damage. Call us right away we are available 24/7.
Serving Up Water Odor Control in Oxnard
Soda bars are a fun and functional upgrade many homes indulge in, like any appliance, they need to be periodically checked for signs of water damage. The supply lines that feed into the unit can show signs of wear and pressure regulators should be tested regularly to ensure they are in working order.
SERVPRO was called for a water odor problem at a home in Oxnard. The homeowner had previously discovered a leak in the main supply line that fed tap water into the unit and mixed with carbonation and syrup when soda was made.
The homeowner had gotten the leak fixed, and an unpleasant odor remained in the room, and he could not locate the problem. SERVPRO technicians used soft probes and thermal imaging to trace the source of the smell and found when the fountain was used, a small mixture of water and syrup was running down the back of the vintage stainless steel bar and collecting on the wall. The steel bar was placed directly against the wall, effectively blocking any airflow. The area between the bar and the wall was retaining this moisture and causing an unpleasant odor.
The drywall was showing damage from being regular dampened, so it was removed. Air movers were specially angled to direct airflow into the wall cavity behind the bar. Once the area tested for optimal dryness, we used direct spraying for the wall area, bar and floor to clean up any remaining water/syrup residue, but a slight odor remained.
Because SERVPRO technicians are certified in the science of odor control, we know that a single method may not be sufficient and most cases, multiple approaches to eradicating foul odors are necessary. Ultra low volume fogging penetrates areas odor particles hide and neutralizes them with a solvent -based deodorizing fog. Once the odor was gone, our technicians suggested to the homeowner to doublecheck the supply lines and place the bar with enough space to allow for any moisture collected during operation of the soda fountain to evaporate naturally.
SERVPRO of Oxnard has the equipment and expertise to find and neutralize your water odor problem. We are available 24-hours a day at (805) 984-2347.

What are Some Types of Water Damage?
SERVPRO of Oxnard sees two common types of water loss in Oxnard homes from a category one (clean) water spill, and both usually appear together. The first type is visually apparent, where there are wet surfaces, flooring, and contents, and this is one of the first tasks, extracting any standing water. We use all types of equipment from basic squeegees and mops to portable and truck mounted extractors. Depending on the size of the water to be cleaned, we have the equipment to meet the challenge.
The second type has the potential to be even more damaging to a structure and possessions as it is the moisture that cannot be seen with the naked eye as voids behind walls and ceilings, under flooring and in carpet padding for just a few examples. This can lead to mold issues, rotted drywall or wood, and foul odors. Additionally, incomplete drying of flooring can lead to a weakening of the integrity of the subfloor and soft spots that may potentially cause safety issues. Get it dry quickly with SERVPRO of Oxnard, We're Faster To Any SIze Disaster.
How is Moisture Detected in the Structure or Items?
Our IICRC-certified SERVPRO of Oxnard technicians have different types of equipment to detect hidden moisture. We have specialized moisture sensors to use around baseboards and walls, and probes for soft surfaces such as carpet and padding. Thermal imaging is also useful for finding pockets of moisture inside wall cavities. SERVPRO techs map out all areas the water has affected using these devices. We carefully address each area and get it ready before the drying phase begins. For example, weep holes may be drilled into sagging ceilings or drywall to allow for drainage and air flow. Furniture that is retaining moisture may be placed on blocks to be dried or relocated to a dry area of the structure.
The setup for drying is exact and detailed. Our technicians check and double check readings to ensure they have the right determination for temperature, humidity and other factors that can affect the drying of the structure and contents. When determining a baseline for dryness, there is no set single reading for all jobs. SERVPRO technicians take readings from unaffected areas of the home to determine the appropriate level of dryness for the water damaged area of the property.
Drying Equipment is More Than Big Fans
There is a science to the setup of the air moving equipment SERVPRO uses. Our technicians map out the air flow in the water loss area to determine the best angles to set up the fans to cause the moisture to rise. The dehumidification equipment effectively captures the moisture and eliminates it by pulling in the moist air and discharging warm, dry air. The dry air, in turn, absorbs moisture from wet objects in the area and the cycle continues. This is how we can dry both structure and affected furnishings in the same room. We try to disrupt the property as little as possible during remediation, and our goal is always to restore rather than replace, saving property owners money whenever we can.
We also have specialized dehumidifiers when the dewpoint is too low in Oxnard to use a standard unit. Desiccant dehumidifiers work by using chemical attraction instead of the usual method of condensation to remove water vapor from the air. Silicate gels are often the chemical of choice for these devices. This type of equipment produces one of the lowest vapor pressures, and they are ideal to use when drying is needed in dense building materials such as plaster over lath and in some cases, hardwood flooring.
Cleaning to Sanitary Standards
After the drying phase of water damage restoration is complete. SERVPRO technicians verify the moisture levels in all affected areas of the Oxnard residence to ensure the water content levels are at the established baseline. Technicians then wipe down the surfaces including walls and ceilings with our high-grade antifungal solutions to clean, disinfect and inhibit mold growth.
Both sides of the carpeting are routinely treated with an EPA-registered disinfectant after extraction. If needed, ULV fogging is used to neutralize residual odors on a case by case basis. Upholstery is often treated with an antifungal to discourage mildew after complete drying. Thorough drying and sanitizing is often enough to eliminate residual odors, if any remain behind, our Odor Control Technicians have several different methods of eliminating unpleasant odors.
Once the job is complete, a SERVPRO technician performs a walk through with the property owner to ensure that all established remediation points have been handled and a quality cleanup and restoration job have been done to the satisfaction of our customer.

Aging Fixtures Can Lead to Water Leaks in Oxnard Homes
Not everyone can consider revamping and remodeling areas of their Oxnard home whenever fixtures and structural elements start to show signs of aging and degradation. While replacing faucets and other components like them is not an expensive venture, it can often take more time and effort than homeowners can provide. In turn, these fixtures continue to age and degrade with time, eventually leaking through the weakest points and saturating into cabinetry, vanities, and flooring materials.
While there are effective ways of restoring your Oxnard home when faced with water damage incidents, many homeowners often choose to attempt to resolve the situation on their own. The trouble with addressing water loss incidents of any size in your house is the unknown of how far the damage might have spread since the problem first began. You could only be scratching the surface of the damage that exists with your conventional cleaning and drying efforts.
Our SERVPRO team can respond quickly when emergencies occur to offer effective mitigation services that can protect and preserve affected materials and areas of your property. We have thermal imagery tablets that can identify moisture pockets in the walls, floors, and ceiling spaces to help direct our drying machines and equipment to where they would get most effectively placed.
With our injecti-dry system, we can remove the baseboards at the bottom of drywall to force heated air through wall cavities and ceiling spaces to remove lingering moisture and dampness. For saturation into the flooring, which can even occur with waterproof flooring common to the bathroom areas, we can set up our drying mats with our injecti-dry system to slowly pull moisture from the affected materials to preserve them when possible.

The Advantages of Using Multi-disciplined Technicians for Oxnard Properties with Water Damage
Owning your property makes you responsible for any damages that occur. Unfortunately, most homeowners have had bad experiences relating to water damages. One of the primary reasons is that a myriad of different things can cause these types of loss with no way to predict or mitigate against it. How you respond to the situation is what makes the difference when it comes to reducing the amount of harm caused, and that is why most flood damage requires professional assistance.
Private residences that have been afflicted by water damage in Oxnard and the surrounding area rely on local services for quick call out times. As a general rule of thumb, the longer water is allowed to saturate your furniture and possessions the harder it is to restore them to preloss conditions. SERVPRO operates locally, using IICRC certified technicians that are just a phone call away. Having experience in dealing with homes just like yours guarantees a professional and personal service that is efficient and on time.
One of the features of a SERVPRO technician that stands out is their multi-disciplinary training. We operate a 24/7 emergency line. On receiving your call, we can arrange for precisely the type of technician, equipment, and attention you need within four hours of notification of loss. Carpeted properties, for example, can be trickier to deal with as fabrics become up to 50% weaker when saturated with water.
SERVPRO has specialist carpet technicians who can assess and remediate your fittings causing minimal damage. Usually, we can remove the carpets to a designated clean room where both sides are dried correctly using low-powered extractors or rapid air movers that are sensitive to fabrics. Once dried, we treat both sides of the carpet with anti-microbial treatment to limit the chances of secondary damages like mold growth. We can also inspect your subfloor for any signs of structural damage.

Attention Oxnard Homeowners! Prevent Water Damage to Your Floors by Calling SERVPRO Promptly
Preserving Your Flooring with Water Removal in Your Oxnard Home
Certain disasters and unforeseen incidents pose a substantial risk to construction materials and surfaces throughout your Oxnard residence. Your flooring is often one of these highly affected areas, regardless of the disaster to your property. With significant water loss incidents, however, saturation of your flooring materials can begin to happen almost immediately, posing a risk to preserving these materials if the situation does not get addressed promptly.

Water loss incidents can leave pooling throughout the affected areas of your residence, which seeps into the flooring materials right away. Wood flooring is especially susceptible to pooling water, as even hardwoods are porous enough to absorb the moisture and allow it to contort and bloat the material. After only a brief period from several hours to days, the composition of these wood planks can become compromised, leaving our SERVPRO technicians no choice but to suggest their removal and replacement with new materials.
With a fast call from you about the water loss situation in your home, our technicians can arrive quickly to begin extraction and drying efforts. The quicker that we can put our equipment and expertise to work in your home, the better the odds of preserving the original materials used in the construction of your residence. For wood flooring, our technicians often focus on the use of drying mats, air movers, and dehumidification equipment to draw the water back out of the pores of the wood for extraction. Hidden water in the joints of tongue and groove planks and the underlying supporting joists are often ignored resulting in further damage and possible mold growth.
When you need water removal services for your home, time is not on your side. Water damage spreads quickly and can cause irreparable effects to the materials and contents of your property if not addressed immediately. Turbulence can stir up water so much, seeing the bottom and any dangers within the water can become almost impossible.

Mixing with detergent or other items in your property often makes such clear previously water opaque. Keeping detergents up on shelves, above the laundry facilities, places it out of reach of children, pets, and washing machine mishaps. SERVPRO employees working on your home use highly effective water removal techniques to extract this water so we can begin drying everything out.
A crucial part of our water removal work involves testing for water vapor amounts in the air. We also use instruments to determine the amount of moisture held by different materials. Complete water removal services include eliminating excess moisture from wherever it went inside your property.

SERVPRO Provides Rapid Water Removal and Drying to Mitigate Damages Caused by Leaks
When your washer springs a small leak with every cycle, you may be tempted to put a towel down while you wash clothes due to financial concerns, but this can cause water damage to your floor underneath. While the leak is relatively small, and a towel does absorb the water, it does not remove the issue of exposure. The towel gets soaked, and because of this, it does nothing to solve the problem at hand. After all, water is still in contact with the ground. Over time, and especially when you have days of washing load after load, this can cause water damage to the wooden floor underneath.
When the wooden floors inside of your Oxnard home are exposed to water damage, they can lift from the base underneath and warp. Water causes the wood to expand and, because the boards are snugly installed, the moisture causes it to lose its rigidly straight shape and curl upwards. To prevent cupping like this, which can result in new boards needing to be installed, it is wise to fix equipment when it breaks and to call for remediation services as soon as possible.
When SERVPRO receives your call, we aim to arrive at your home swiftly with the right equipment to handle the job. Our estimator can walk you through the damage and explain what we can do to help you. They serve as a bridge between our team of technicians and you, able to answer any questions and relay information.
Our SERVPRO IICRC-certified technicians can use tools such as air movers, axial fans, and desiccant dehumidifiers to address the water damage inside of your home. All three of these tools help reduce moisture and improve airflow in the afflicted area, creating an environment that is ideal for evaporation. Once the area seems like it has been sufficiently remediated, SERVPRO can check the moisture levels and make sure that they are within the recommended range since we took baseline measurements of dry areas of your structure previously.
If a faulty appliance causes water damage inside of your home, do not delay in calling for help. Phone SERVPRO of Oxnard by dialing (805) 984-2347. Day or night, we are available and ready to take on the job.

Survey Finds Close to 80% of Homeowners Overlook Costly Water Leak Exposure When Heading Out on Vacation
"WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J.– August 21, 2017 – A new survey from Chubb finds that while on vacation, just 19% of homeowners view internal water leak damage as the most concerning home threat, despite the fact that water leaks are a more frequent risk than fire and theft.
“The time between when a leak occurs and when it is discovered is the single greatest factor in determining the amount of damage,” said Fran O’Brien, Division President of Chubb North America Personal Risk Services. “As a result, leaks that occur while you’re away result in greater amounts of damage, in terms of both cost and severity.”
Instances of water damage have been rising dramatically. In the past 10 years, the frequency of sudden pipe bursts has nearly doubled. In 2015, water damage accounted for nearly half of all property damage, according to the Insurance Information Institute. Chubb’s new Homeowners’ Water Risk Survey measures homeowners’ attitudes toward home protection, the risks they’re most concerned about and what they are overlooking. The online survey of 1,200 homeowners finds that just 8% of homeowners correctly identify August as the month with the most water leak events, and when subsequently heading out on a late-summer vacation, just 22% shut off the water main (despite 88% knowing where it is located within their home)."

Planning For And Preventing Water Intrusion In Buildings
Excess moisture in the built environment not only causes physical damage deleterious to buildings, it can also lead to adverse health effects and compromised indoor air quality (IAQ). These conditions will likely lead to fungal growth if not dealt with immediately and properly. Whether the cause of water intrusion is a catastrophic event, such as a building flood, or an ongoing maintenance or construction issue, a proper and timely response can save time and money.
Moisture sources that can impact buildings can be divided into two broad categories, internal and external. Internal sources of moisture include building-related systems such as plumbing and mechanical systems. External sources of moisture intrusion typically involve water or moisture entering the built environment through the building envelope such as penetrations through the roof, expansion joints, sub-slab, windows, doors, etc. Some sources of water intrusion may be attributed to construction or material defects and could have legal implications.

What's the best way to handle a water damage? AVOID the water damage!
"After spending over 10 hours pouring water, mopping it up, and changing wet socks to test the performance of seven DIY leak detectors, we've decided that the D-Link DCH-S160 Wi-Fi Water Sensor is the best smart water sensor currently available. It's one of the few options that doesn't need a smart-home hub, making it a more affordable solution than the competition because it can work with your existing Wi-Fi network. It can—like the rest of the units we tested—deliver alerts whenever water is present, but it also throws in a few perks that aren't available on any other smart water sensor at this price.
Who should get this
Water sensors are small devices that can alert you whenever water is present around the refrigerator, the washing machine, sinks, and toilets—even in the basement. If you've got a leaky basement or appliances of a certain age, a smart water sensor makes for a strategic addition to your home."

Solved! What to Do About a Leaky Roof
Q: Help! I woke up after last night’s storm to find a discoloration on the kitchen ceiling and a puddle underneath. What do I do about this new leak?
A: There’s nothing quite like an indoor puddle to put a damper on your rise-and-shine routine, is there? The first thing to do is mitigate any moisture damage. That can get complicated, since a leaky roof doesn’t always appear as a puddle on the floor (or at least not immediately). Occasionally, the only sign of a leak is a subtle discolored patch on your ceiling or wall, caused by water pooling behind it. When you’re lucky enough to spot it early on, intervene as soon as possible using the following steps.
